Guide to Animation

In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film. Today, most animations are made with computer-generated imagery. Animation applications available in the Spark! Digital Media Lab can be used to learn the basics of computer animation.

In the Lab

  • Wacom Intuos Tablets
  • Wacom Cintiq Tablets

  • Blender: a 3D computer graphics software toolset.
  • Adobe CC Animate: a program used to design vector graphics and animation.
  • Adobe CC Character Animator: a program used to control layered 2D puppets drawn in Photoshop or Illustrator.

The lab is outfitted with 4 Mac and 4 PC desktops. Most software is available on all desktops.
