Volunteering in the Spark! Lab

Burbank Public Library is seeking volunteers to assist in the Spark! Digital Media Lab at the Central Library. The Spark! Lab is a technology learning space providing access and training in the use of software and equipment relevant to Burbank’s media industry.

Volunteers should have an interest in and a general familiarity with technology. Lab volunteers help with general operations during open hours and assist Lab staff with special projects. Volunteers may also assist in delivering training classes if they have specialized skills in any of the equipment or software available in the Lab.

Lab users are Burbank Public Library cardholders who are age 14 and over. Devices and software that are available to users in the Lab include:

  • Mac and Windows computers
  • 3D printers
  • Video and photography equipment
  • Sound production equipment
  • Virtual reality headsets
  • Wacom drawing tablets
  • Adobe Creative Cloud and Mac creative tools

In a typical shift in the Lab, a volunteer might check in users, track equipment use, test equipment and software,  inventory equipment, provide basic equipment and software assistance, or report any issues to Library staff. Volunteers who assist in classes must have additional experience using the technology that is the subject of the class. Spark! Lab staff provide training and guidance to all volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering, you must be at least 14 years old, and you must register with the Burbank Volunteer Program first. See the Burbank Volunteer Program website, or call (818) 238-5370 for more information. Please note an interest in the Spark! Lab on your application.
